OUR STORY

Kamaldeep Kaur started her career in 1996.

She did a 2 year diploma in fashion designing from New Delhi. During the design course she discovered her passion for SHIBORI and started experimenting with it.

Her first job was with leading designer JJ Vallaya. She joined to Gujarat state emporium in 1997 During this period , She did extensive ground level research on Shibori and Bandhani techniques
by visiting villages and meeting craft communities in Gujarat. She worked on developing new cotemporary designs by using traditional Bandhani techniques.

She founded her first company DAMASK in 1997 .In next few year ,She completed several design development projects in collaboration with the Ministry of textiles and NIFT ,Ahmedabad .In
2003-2004, Kamaldeep was invited for a Natural dye research program by NID, to share the practical experiences she had gained during the eight years of practicing natural dyes.

She established her company NEELGAR in 2005. Neelgar products line include Silk scarves, Stoles, Saris, Shawls, Yardage and collections of garments. Neelgar has successfully launched
various new collections innovating with various dyeing techniques like Bandhani , Lehriya, Japanese Shibori ,Clamps , Block Printing etc. Various celebrities in India have in adorned and admired Pieces designed by Neelgar.

Kamaldeep has showcased her work in 25 countries through design and museum shows. She has been invited in across the world to give workshops on Shibori, Block Printing and Natural dyes techniques.

Articles written by her were published in in many Indian and International magazines in several languages. She has also co-authored a book on block printing.

Kamaldeep is extremely passionate about her work, which involves reviving rare techniques, working closely with craft communities and taking the age-old traditional crafts to a totally new
level of workmanship and beauty.
